What is a good strategy to speaking English in the IELTS exam?

I want to have a 6.5 score in the IELTS exam, and I would like to know if there is a good advise about this issue.

Best Answer:

Be formal, not too formal but formal. Be polite: I've often prepared people for that test and a common mistake is that some of them recently travelled and are eager to show off they understand slang. Well, the IELTS exam room is not the place to say 'that's brill mate!' or 'd'you Adam and Eve it me ol' chum?'. Keep it simple: examiners aren't impressed by exaggerated use of specific words. Also, avoid prepared over-rehearsed monologues, just be natural and answer the questions directly. Don't be monosyllabic but don't tell them the story of your life either. Subscribe to http://www.ielts-blog.com/, they'll send you the questions asked at the latest exams in many parts of the world, you can use them to practise. 6.5 isn't hard to get, so it'd be better if you aimed at 7.5 at least. Better safe than sorry.
