As has been pointed out, there are a few standards, British and American being the main ones, though there are regional accents as well. Conversing with natives can help. Your use of the word "standard" makes it seem as though you may be Chinese. The word is perfectly fine as you used it, though. it is just going to be a matter of practice. you may want to watch english television or a book on tape, and mimic what they are saying, after you mimic for a while it will get easier to form the sounds correctly.

There are many different "standard" English pronunciations. American English is different than British English and Australian English. Many text books that teach English in countries besides the United States will teach British English pronunciation. It will sound strange to our American ears, but we understand it and it makes you sound very smart!

Since English is a foreign language to you (not even your second language i suppose specially if you belong to the non-english speaking country) it's really a nose bleed to have that "Standard English Pronunciation" Basically there isn't such a Standard English because in America there are lots of states and every states have their own English Variation. So better yet, improve your pronunciation as clearly as posibble i mean you can pronounce R from L, S from Z, Ch from Sh and the like. Constant listening to an English conversation and exposure to native speakers are better! As time goes by you'll find yourselt talk closely as a native speaker. I hope i helped... et-chel_05

english[with a new york accent ]is my language. i speak a little vietnamese..with a poor new york accent. to try and improve my viet accent i 1st try to mimic/imitate my viet friend speaking ENGLISH with a viet accent..then i proceed to practicing vietnamese with his accent..hard for me to explain..i listen to a viet speaking English with a viet accent ..i find that imitating his speaking english makes it somehow easier for me to speaking vietnamese with a proper viet accent..[1st i speak english with a viet accent ,then i go to speaking vietnamese with a viet accent] it does not last long..i have to make a conscious effort and speak slowly..which is hard for me as a fast speaking new yorker..sooo..anyway try imitating the accent a westerner uses speaking vietnamese[hope you can find one] then take that accent into English words..the key is imitation..
