When do you send your GMAT scores to the prospective graduate schools?

I need to take the GMAT this summer. Do you send the scores immediately after you get through taking the test? Are you given a certain amount of schools to apply to because of the test fee? Someone give give me the basics of sending GMAT scores.

Best Answer:

When you actually take the test, after you are sat a computer but before the test starts, you will be able to select some number of schools to have the scores sent to for free (I think it's 4, but it might be 6). You may select additional schools later online for an additional fee. Schools will not receive the score report for about 2-3 weeks, because even though you get unofficial results immediately (on the computer and on a printout) , the score won't be finalized until the essay is graded. Occassionally, if you are under a very strict deadline, some schools will accept a copy of your unofficial scores temporarily until your official score report coms in. If you are under such a deadline, check with the business school's admissions office--find out if you have to take the test by the deadline, or if they need to receive the real official scores by that point.

To add to the previous answer, you get the score for the multiple choice parts immediately after you finish the test, assuming that you accept the test. You have a choice of not accepting it, meaning that you void you score. People do this if they think they did not do very well on it. This is quite dumb because you just paid $250 to take a test! As the previous person said, yes, the scores will be sent to up to five schools that you chose once the essay questions have been evaluated. This takes at least a couple of weeks. You will get an e-mail with a link to your scores. Take advantage of the number of the 5 free reports because it costs $28 for each school that you send scores to after you take the test.
