What's the difference between 'erroneous' and 'inaccurate'?

A Chinese friend, who's preparing to take the TOEIC test, asked me why a newspaper ad, for example, might contain 'inaccurate information' but not 'erroneous information'. The first certainly sounds better, but I haven't a clue why!

Best Answer:

erroneous information gives you a wrong information by mistake . 'inaccurate information' gives you a correct information but it dosn't have very accurate details

yes inaccurate definitely sounds better. i am not sure but i'm just giving it a try here. perhaps when you say erroneous, it means containing an error. hence, if the information has errors, it will not be good information after all. it will not serve to INFORM, and hence cannot be called information. as for inaccurate, perhaps that means that the information is still correct, but slightly inaccurate. it seems like the error is to a lesser degree than "erroneous", hence it can still be called information. therefore "inaccurate information" is the correct phrasing. hope i helped a little =)

When we say erroneous information, those are wrong and based on facts that are not correct while inaccurate means it's not completely correct.it lacks information.
