Best Answer:

It will definitely help you when speaking and writing. When you know the correct way to develop a sentence, that will translate into other areas of your life. You will sound more intelligent when you speak, and also when you write. Good grammar will distinguish you from they next guy when applying for a job, writing an essay, asking a girl out, etc.

Quite simply, quality grammar will open doors of opportunity, and may even allow you to create verbal and written masterpieces. Grammar and vocabulary are like colors. You can paint with eight basic colors, or you can select as many colors as Sherwin-Williams can create. Which creates the masterpiece of subtle shadings and highlights? Not everyone skilled in grammar will create a “masterpiece”. Certainly you stand a better chance of becoming the next great poet, journalist, novelist, or orator, but there are other opportunities that are still satisfying. Some examples: 1. Learning additional languages may be easier. You'll recognize patterns and words that were previously added to English, the great borrower language. 2. Job recognition is greater. Effective communication often wins over plain brute skill when seeking a new position or a promotion. Your grammar may become the resource upon which management depends to properly word company policy or other important documents. Speaking from experience, I can say such opportunity is eye catching on a resume. 3. Personal enrichment is increased. You will be able to comprehend many of the great classics of the English language, composed with high grammatical standards. Philosophy, science, history, drama, etc. “The world will be your oyster,” as they say. And as you experience new ideas and interests, you will also be able to easily compose your own thoughts for posterity, be they as simple as a journal or as mighty as a Constitution. 4. Others lives will be touched. This point is truly fulfilling. As I write this, friends of mine have devoted a couple of years of their lives to teaching English as a second language to those living in China. With such training comes the opportunity to share cultures and understandings, and to make lasting friendships. In addition, you will be better prepared to defuse tense situations between people by selecting just the right words and phrases to let other parties know an alternative, peaceful meaning to a poorly worded, inflammatory statement.
