I'm not good at speaking and listening skills in English . I'm shy when I stand in the front of crowded people. About listening skill , I can't listen because they speak too fast and sometimes , they link their pronounciation. That's why I can't keep with what they said.

go online and do a search for a program called "Hooked On Phonics". You will be speaking english in no time. As far as listening, get the Album Led Zepplin 4 and play it over and over until you understand all the words....good luck and I will see you at the INS office soon

My english is better than the language I grew up with at home. I'm trying to improve what I know, and I used to watch tv shows in the language and it was hard for me to follow. It's better for me now and my mom says I speak better and it's only been a few weeks. I think that when I try to understand the meaning of an entire sentence, I am better able to understand what is being said. So what you may be doing when you listen to english is you may be paying attention to specific words you don't know. Instead of doing that, why not try to understand the meaning of whole sentence and pay more attention to meaning than to learning a word. That's important too, but maybe it will work for you. I also thought I should say that I've heard "Language is caught, not taught". I think the best way to learn English is to watch tv and listen to how they talk. Later you can look words up in the dictionary. You say you can't listen, why not try changing your mindset and believing that you can listen.

You didn't identify if you are a native English speaker, so I'm going to assume your are. I worked as a counselor for many years. The most important lesson I ever learned was that to counsel well, you have to listen well. Listening is a skill, which can be acquired with practice and diligence. So how do you practice listening? First, prepare to listen. Set your mind in the moment. Second, stop focusing on all the other issues in your personal world, and REALLY try to focus on the speaker, the words, and the intent. You'll find that, with time, you begin to really hear not only what is being said, but what the speaker means (which can be different). Speaking, especially in front of a crowd, has been often compared to dying. Many people are less afraid of death than of public speaking. One of the best ways to learn to speak in public is to join a group such as "Toastmasters" where you learn to speak in a supportive, safe environment.

Get an English-speaking friend. then talk to them a lot, and make sure they're nice enough to repeat what they say... If you talk to them a lot, it will really improve your listening/speaking skills. It worked for me- i'm learning russian. its fricken hard to speak, and harder to understand. So i talk to russian speaing people a lot, and it helps. Also, my russian teacher has the class listen to a russian radio station every day during class, and it helps. A lot. So an english tv show/ english radio/english speaking friend will help a lot.
